Andrew Lewarne, RMT

As a RMT for seventeen years, Andrew Lewarne joined the RMTAO as Executive Director and CEO in March, 2014. Having owned and operated his own clinic for the last 10 years and served on the Board of Directors as Vice Chair until September 2013, Andrew provides the RMTAO with a wealth of knowledge and experience in Massage Therapy.

In addition to Andrew’s practice as a health professional, he has also had the opportunity to support the profession as the Examinations Officer for the College of Massage Therapists’ of Ontario (CMTO). In this role he provided significant contributions with respect to the examination process. Further to this, he has also provided credibility to the profession as an Expert Witness for the CMTO and law enforcement agencies province-wide.

Andrew’s interests are founded primarily in the development and credibility of RMTs. He taught at Humber College in the Massage Therapy Program, focusing on ethics, legislation, communication and entrepreneurship. He has also worked with programs associated with the University of Toronto and the International Medical Graduate Program, collaborating with other health care practitioners as a member of the Cross Cultural Communication Committee and the Inter-Professional Communication Committee.

Andrew is looking forward to working on behalf of the profession to further the RMTAO’s goals locally, provincially, and nationally.


Jill Haig, BSc (Hons)

Jill joined us in 2011 as the Education and Administration Planner, and currently oversees the day-to-day operations of the association and assists in developing strategy for the direction of the association. Originally from St. Catharines, Ontario, she graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biology with a specialization in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.

Her previous work experience includes contract work with the Ontario Chiropractic Association where she oversaw the introduction of a new member database and electronic member interface. She also worked with a number of departments to analyze and revise their workflows.

Jill has pursued educational opportunities in e-Learning Program Development and Implementation at the University of Toronto. She is also currently working towards her Certified Association Executive designation through the Canadian Society of Association Executives.

Jill is passionate about developing strategies that will help move the profession of massage therapy in the right direction.


Laura Fixman, BAA (Hons)
Communication and Member Services Coordinator

With a passion for community outreach and member services, Laura Fixman joined the association in August 2014 as the Member Services Administrator. A graduate from the joint program at the University of Guelph-Humber in 2012 with a degree in Media Studies from the University of Guelph and a diploma in Journalism from Humber College, she brings with her a keen mind for communications and outreach.

Laura comes to us with member services experience from the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association, where she assisted with the membership renewal campaign. She also has promotional and customer service experience from the profit sector, and is an active volunteer with various non-profit organizations.

Laura is excited to support the advancement of the RMT profession and provide our members with tools they need to grow in their practice.


Caitlin Ferguson BA (Hons), MA

Caitlin joined the association in December of 2016. She graduated from the University of Guelph in 2014 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and French, and from the University of Toronto in 2015 with a Master of Arts in Anthropology. Her main academic interests included studying the working conditions of employees of small businesses and the self-employed, and she brings with her an interest in helping others improve their professional life.

Apart from her academic experience, Caitlin also brings member service experience from the software industry. She is also an active volunteer with several arts organizations and other non-profits in the city.

Caitlin is keen to maintain her French language skills, and encourages any members who prefer to communicate with her in French to do so.
